The Nuclear Resources and Environment Laboratory, established in 1996, was approved as State Key Laboratory by Ministry of Science and Technology of China in 2018. It is the first State Key Laboratory set up in the field of nuclear resources and environment. The laboratory has developed rapidly with excellent achievements. It was once named ProvincialKey Laboratory for Nuclear Resources and Environment in 2004 and then MinisterialKey Laboratory in 2005. In 2009, the laboratory was selected as one of the ten R&D Platforms for Scientific and Technological Innovation in the Provincial Key Construction Project.

        Research Focus

Emphasizing theoretical and applied basic research, the laboratoryaims to research key technologies by theoretical innovation, for providing innovation power and intellectual support in the development of Nuclear Resources and Environment. The laboratory focuses on the following research areas:

        1. Uranium Metallogenic Theory and ProspectingMethods

        2. MethodsandTechnologyof UraniumMiningandMetallurgical Process

        3. Nuclear Waste Disposal and Environmental Treatment

        Facilities and Staff

The laboratory has advanced infrastructures and a comfortable working environment (8,000 m2). The lab is armed with large-scale instruments and equipment such as JXA-8530F Plus Electron Probe, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope, and MAT-253Stable Isotope Mass Spectrometer. The total cost is over 80 million RMB, and they have played a crucial role for scientific research.

Talents have an important significance on lab development. In recent years, a large number of scientists have been recruited by the lab, including a foreign academician of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and anoutstanding professor identified by the Education Ministry's New Century Excellent Talents Supporting Plan. Up to now, the lab has developed several provincial and ministerial science and technology innovation teams, laying solid foundation on the scientific research in the field of nuclear resources and environment.

        Scientific Achievements

The laboratory has become a research team withgood foundation and strong innovation ability in the field of nuclear resources and environment. This team has achieved a number of important scientific research results, some of which have reached advanced level domestically and internationally. For example, the lab has undertaken over 230 national research projects with total research funds of over 150 million RMB. We have received over 20 national and provincial scientific awards, been granted 50 national patents, published 26 monographs and more than 900 papers, 273 of which are indexed by SCI and EI.

        International Exchange

As a platform of exchange and cooperation in the field of nuclear resources and environment, foreign scholars for academic exchange are warmly welcomed, anddomestic researchers and students are encouraged to study abroad. The lab has hosted five international seminars and bilateral symposiums, and more than 40 foreign guest scientists have been invited to pay a visit. Moreover, we have undertaken IAEA training projects several times, keeping touch with IAEA through collaboration and communication. In addition, we have cooperated with foreign countries like Russia, the Czech Republic, America, Britain, Canada, and Austria, carrying out scientific research together in different fields.

        Others

The lab has established partnerships with State Key Laboratory of Geological Processes and Mineral Resources, National Engineering Laboratory of Biometallurgy, and General Research Institute for Nonferrous Metals. These long-term partnerships have made a great contribution on the progress and development of the lab. By setting up openingfoundation of scientific projects, we will attract more excellent researchers in the field to develop in-depth cooperation and tackle key scientific issues with us.
